Mauritanian Seafood, European Standards.
AZZA SEAFOOD was founded to bridge the gap between Mauritania's rich marine resources and Europe's demand for traceable, responsibly sourced seafood.
Partnership
Mauritanian–Hungarian Partnership
AZZA SEAFOOD is the product of a joint venture between Mauritanian fishing interests and Hungarian export specialists. This partnership combines decades of on-the-water knowledge with European market expertise, a dual perspective that ensures both quality of catch and the precision of continental supply chains.
Our Mauritanian partners manage vessel operations, landing logistics, and initial processing within the Nouadhibou Free Trade Zone, while our European operations handle documentation, quality assurance, and buyer relationships across EU member states. The result is a tightly integrated supply chain with a single point of accountability.
This cross-continent structure also provides a natural hedge: production realities are understood on the ground in Mauritania, while the sales pipeline is managed with the expectations and compliance frameworks of European importers.
Location
Nouadhibou Free Trade Zone
Our operations are based in the Nouadhibou Free Trade Zone on Mauritania's Atlantic coast. Nouadhibou is one of West Africa's principal fishing ports, situated at the tip of the Ras Nouadhibou peninsula, with direct access to the rich waters of the Eastern Central Atlantic.
The Free Trade Zone designation brings concrete logistical advantages: streamlined customs procedures, duty exemptions on processing equipment and packaging materials, and simplified export documentation. These efficiencies translate into shorter order-to-shipment lead times and more competitive pricing for European buyers.
Strategically, Nouadhibou is well-positioned for container shipping to Mediterranean and Northern European ports. Regular liner services connect the port to Las Palmas, Algeciras, Rotterdam, and Hamburg, the primary entry corridors for seafood imported into the EU.
Stewardship
Environmental Stewardship
Biological Rest Periods
For key pelagic species such as sardine (Sardina pilchardus), we observe seasonal biological rest periods aligned with the primary spawning windows. During these periods, sourcing is voluntarily suspended to allow stocks to regenerate, a long-term investment in resource continuity that our European buyers value.
Selective Mesh Sizes
Our partner vessels use mesh configurations selected to reduce by-catch of juvenile specimens and non-target species. Net specifications are reviewed periodically in consultation with regional fisheries science bodies, and catch composition is documented in landing declarations available to buyers on request.
Certifications
Verified Quality, Documented Compliance
EU Approved
Our facilities and products are approved for export to all European Union member states, meeting Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 standards for food of animal origin.
HACCP Compliant
All processing follows Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points methodology, with documented control measures at every stage from landing to containerisation.
FAO 34
We source exclusively from FAO Fishing Area 34, the Eastern Central Atlantic, one of the most productive marine ecosystems, managed under regional fisheries agreements.
